Authorized Carrier

A carrier that a shipper or broker has pre-approved to haul their freight, having cleared the required vetting.

An authorized carrier is a trucking company that a shipper or broker has already checked out and cleared to move their loads. The approval usually means the carrier’s operating authority, insurance, and safety record have been verified ahead of time.

Working only with authorized carriers protects the freight owner: it lowers the risk of fraud, uninsured loss, or a load ending up with an unvetted party. It’s also part of why brokers guard against double brokering, where a load is handed off to a carrier that was never approved.
