Consignor

The party sending the shipment — the company or person the freight originates from. Often the same as the shipper.

The consignor is the party that sends out the goods — the origin side of a shipment. In many cases the consignor is also the shipper, the one who owns the freight and arranges for it to be moved.

On the bill of lading, the consignor is named opposite the consignee, the party receiving the load. Knowing which is which keeps pickups and deliveries — and the paperwork trail — straight.
