Flatbed

An open, deck-style trailer with no walls or roof, used for freight that's loaded from the side or top or is too large for an enclosed trailer.

A flatbed is an open trailer — just a flat deck with no sides or roof. That openness makes it ideal for freight that can’t fit or be loaded into a closed box: lumber, steel, construction equipment, machinery, and cars.

Because the load is exposed, securing it correctly is the whole game. Straps, chains, and tarps hold and protect the freight, and loads that exceed legal size cross into oversized territory. For taller freight, a step deck offers a lower deck height.
