Interstate trucking means a shipment travels between different states — pickup in one, delivery in another (or passing through several). It’s the opposite of intrastate, where everything stays within a single state.
The distinction matters for regulation: interstate carriers fall under federal FMCSA authority and rules, and need the corresponding operating authority and registration. Most long-haul US freight is interstate.
