Owner-Operator

A driver who owns their own truck and runs it either under their own authority or leased to a larger carrier.

An owner-operator is a trucker who owns the truck they drive. They run the business side as well as the driving — either operating under their own authority (their own MC Number) or leasing on with a larger carrier and running under its authority.

Owner-operators carry the rewards and the risks of ownership: they keep more of each load’s revenue but cover fuel, maintenance, insurance, and payments themselves. Many reach ownership through a lease or lease purchase.
