SCAC stands for Standard Carrier Alpha Code — a short code of two to four letters assigned to a carrier to identify it uniquely in shipping systems and documents. It’s a quick, standardized way to reference a specific company.
SCACs show up in EDI transactions, bills of lading, and the systems shippers and intermodal partners use to route freight. It’s one of several identifiers a carrier carries, alongside its MC Number and USDOT number.
