Cargo

A general term for the goods or commodity being transported — essentially another word for freight.

Cargo is simply the goods a truck is carrying — the commodity being moved from pickup to delivery. In everyday use it’s interchangeable with freight.

What the cargo actually is drives a lot of decisions: the type of trailer needed, whether special handling or permits apply, how it’s insured, and how it’s valued on the paperwork. That’s why the commodity is always spelled out on documents like the bill of lading.
