ELD

Electronic Logging Device — the connected device that automatically records a driver's hours, mileage, and driving activity.

ELD stands for Electronic Logging Device. It plugs into the truck and automatically tracks data like drive time, engine hours, speed, and miles, replacing the old paper logbook for recording a driver’s day.

Its main job is enforcing Hours of Service rules: because the ELD logs driving automatically, it’s much harder to run over legal limits without it being recorded. Most US commercial drivers are federally required to use one.
