A hopper body is a trailer designed for dry bulk freight — grain, food products, dry cement mix, and similar loose materials. Its defining feature is bottom-unloading: gates or chutes underneath let the contents flow out by gravity.
That design makes loading and unloading quick and largely hands-off, which suits high-volume commodities. It’s the dry-goods counterpart to a tanker, which does the same job for liquids.
