Mile Marker

The small numbered posts along a highway that show the mileage, used for navigation and pinpointing locations.

Mile markers are the numbered signs set at regular intervals along interstates and highways, counting the miles across a state. They give drivers a precise reference for where they are on a given road.

For trucking, they’re a practical shorthand: a driver can report a location, a breakdown, or a meeting point by mile marker, and a dispatcher knows exactly where that is. They also help estimate distance remaining to an exit or a stop.
