POD

Proof of Delivery — a document signed by the receiver confirming the freight arrived, and in what condition.

POD stands for Proof of Delivery. It’s the signed confirmation from the consignee that a shipment was delivered — noting that it arrived and whether it was in good condition. It closes the loop on a haul.

The POD is essential paperwork: it’s what lets the carrier bill for the load, and it’s key evidence if a damage or shortage claim comes up later. Along with the bill of lading, it forms the documentation trail for a completed shipment.
