A weigh station is an official checkpoint, usually on major highways, where commercial trucks pull in to be weighed and, at times, inspected. It’s where weight limits and safety compliance are enforced by authorities.
A truck that’s overweight or over its axle rating can be fined or held until the load is corrected, which is why drivers check their weight at CAT Scales first and keep a scale ticket handy. Qualified trucks can sometimes skip the stop using Pre-Pass.
